On the east coast, we used to call teddy "the swimmer".

If he'd had a joint in his pocket he'd still be in jail.

OK, so it's 100 days (though in my view spending the night in jail after being out all day is much less of a punishment than being in 24 hours). 100 days is still a very light sentence given this guy's apparent repeated disregard for traffic safety. It also greatly concerns me that his felony record will be expunged if he complies with his parole. I think the overall point that Janklow is getting off light stands.

I'm never going to speed again either. On top of that, I will never again blow through stop signs on roads that I am familiar with. Oh wait, I never did that. I also never killed anyone and tried to slime my way out of it by lying at every opportunity. However, if I was found guilty of speeding through a stop sign on a crotch rocket and killing S.D. representative Janklow whilst he was lawfully cruising by in his Cadillac, you better believe I'd get the maximum sentence. Open your eyes.

Default Re:(sh) It happens everywhere

On my way to Sturgis from Alberta I was involved in a accident caused by road contstruction in Montana. It ended in a law suit, and when it finally came down to settlement time my lawyer (as well as an independent lawyer) advised me to settle for what I thought was an unusually low amount.

They showed me a case that involved a drunk who pulled a u-turn (into a bar), resulting in bike broadsiding him, and killing a middle aged couple. It went to court before a jury, and he got off with a fine, the family got nothing.

I was told that in Montana, ND, SD, being a biker is a handicap in any accident. Jury's are picked without any bikers for fear of prejudice. Lawyers can make accountant bikers look like hells angels.

I know in the Janklow case the jury convicted him, but as you see it's the attitude of the judge. If it had been a Judge riding a bike and killed by a redneck in jacked up pickup what do you think the sentence would have been?
