I find it disturbing that, at least in what I read, the judge only considered his past work as a "civil servant" and not his well documented driving habits. Someone in the article I read on CNN.com actually suggested that Janklow should be allowed to do community service, such as speaking to young drivers!! I don't know about you, but I sure don't want him spreading his special driving tips around to kids where I live.

Unfortunately, it looks like there is a very good chance the taxpayers will have to pay a significant portion of any judgement the Scott family receives in a civil trial, because Janklow was coming from an "official event". I hope that is not true, but that is what I saw in a few different articles.

Hey EBass...Don't tempt me! I would not mind joining you to see if I too could stand 30 days in SD.

Folks, this kind of crap goes on all the time - not just when a fellow motorcyclist gets it.

Inform yourself then vote early and often! In the long run, it is your best and most potent weapon. In the short run....30 days ain't so long....

Default Who was the judge?

Can someone please post the name and addresss of the judge so we can let him know we think he is a moron? This sentence is disgusting. Janklow should have gotten 10 years.

Many years ago a friend of mine was involved in an almost identical incident,he blew through a stop sign at 50mph and hit another car and killed a young girl in the car.He was 20yrs old at the time and probably no money for an attorney and no political pull,he got 20yrs in the big one.

I don't think he will meet Bubba in the Minehaha county jail. Probably something like the Mayberry jail. They probably will provide escort services for him.

Typical American justice, the well connected get away with murder, the poor go to jail for 10 years for minor offenses. Not wonder the world sees us as arrogant pigs.

The kid's name is Marcus Dixon. Along with the 3.96 GPA, he also had a football scholarship to Vanderbilt University. He made the (understandable for a teenager) mistake of messing around with a white girl in a white community in Georgia. Marcus had a very bright future, but he apparently pissed off the wrong people and doesn't have money or political power enough to bail him out of the mess. Marcus gets 10 years for doing what I'd bet a LOT of us did at that age, or would've done given an opportunity. Meanwhile, Janklow gets 30 days for reckless disregard for human life, resulting in death. Such a shame. I cut the word "fair" out of my dictionary a long time ago. Getting the x-acto knife out now for the word "justice." Life is much simpler without these words. Sad, I know. As others have said on this board, respond with your votes and your dollars (where you spend 'em). It's all us "regular folk" have, but it's very powerful if everyone pulls together.

You like that too? Crooks like Jackoff live like kings at taxpayer expense. They abuse their power to the greatest extent they think they can get away with. They take actions as govt officials that do far more harm than good.

And some corrupt judge calls it "public service". Punks who knock over 7-11s do less harm to our society than such "servants". Like we're supposed to feel priveleged that these scummy thieves steal us blind to support their nasty habits.
