And, just like the big flashy casinos in Vegas, Columbus has beautiful Nationwide Arena for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Something like $80 million, I think. So, if you want to see where your insurance dollars go, watch a hockey game.

Interesting idea kinetic energy violation!

Courts determination:

First Count: Stupidity - Guilty

Second Count: Excessive Kinetic Energy - Guilty

Sentence: take the 50 pound sledge and beat bike to reclamation size billet. Insurance carrier relieved of liability.

Don't jail him, he'll lose his job and then we'll all pay. If he has to beat his own bike to scrap and still has to pay for it, he obtains valuable common sense. The insurance rates will keep him off bikes for some period of time, in which he can contemplate his "impact" on society.

Hopefully, he'll figure out the meaning of "there's a time and a place for everything", which is just common sence.

That's right, we don't buy 100+ horsepower sportbike to cruise around at 55 do we. It's good that there a tracks and unpopulated tracts of the country for us to play on. It's also good that we think about the consequence of our play and therefor, play safely.

Default driving is a privilege?

i always hear that and I always wonder why everybody swallows it? Does it say somewhere in the constitution that riding around on your horse is a privilege, not a right? All it says is you have the right to travel, as I recall, and that would imply by the most common methods, ie, driving. It also says the govt. can't seize your stuff without due process, but we seem to have pretty much lost that concept too.

Well johnny, the brainwashing is working, isnt it? I tried explaining this one to KPaul, and I'm sure you know how that went. The Gov WANTS you to think everything can be taken away by their all-knowing presence. As long as every one really believes that *****, uprisings will be a thing of the past.

I can't be hypocritical on this one. I have exceeded the speed limit by a considerable amount myself plenty of times. How many times and how fast I was going I won't say. I never got caught doing it, but I did it nonetheless. I have to ask the "hand wringers" among us if they own a sportbike and you never opened it up a few times, at least? I know I have, and will continue to do. He got caught and I didn't. In my opinion, there is a time and place for speed, and a time to keep it cool. If ya do the crime, ya gotta do the time though.

Your kinetic energy statement is misleading. Kinetic energy is measured by the square of the velocity while only the constant value of the mass is applied. The formula is:

Ke = 1/2mv^2

So let's take your example:

Ke = 1/2(700x154^2)

Which gives us a Ke of approximately (because th units have not been converted) 8,300,600 units of Ke for the bike.

Ke = 1/2(5400x70^2)

This gives us 13,230,000 for an SUV weighing 5400lbs.

While it's definitely more, it's really only a 30% increase.

That's the thing mass is a factor in determining the energy in a crash, but speed is a much larger factor.

Imagine Paul Revere being pulled over for reckless riding and being thrown in the stockade on the night of his fateful ride...

PR: "...but, wait, you can't arrest me, the Redcoats are coming!!"

Flatfoot: "Sorry, sir, it's the law. By the way, have you been drinking tonight? I thought I saw your horse in front of Adams' joint..."

Kinda puts things in perspective...
