I'm not saying they shouldn't show support races. I agree with you completely that oftentimes that's where the best racing is. They just shouldn't be showing them during prime time. If they feel like they have to play some races on Tuesday afternoon, show the support races then, and save the big guns for the evening.

I tried getting everyone involved and was scoffed at for not having Tivo or knowing how to use a VCR.

Let's admit there are a TON of Nascar fans out there (as much as I've honestly tried, I am not one of them). And yes there is a lot of money involved. Just look at their race coverage, currently the best and most technologically advanced on TV in the world.

Translation: It's here to stay with no end in sight as long as they're gassed up! Why do you think invaded Iraq?

Whoops, sorry, turns out that they already broadcast the 250GP from last week, so instead we get to see AMA Grand National action from Springfield IL. I can hardly wait.

Yeah, I've almost given up also. I'm hoping Internet broadcasting improves so we can stream it on the PC, like the MotoGP website. Or maybe we should start attending actual races--like Nascar fans do.

Hey, good example. F&ck it then. Just let em do what they want and we will tag along. That's what I want my kids to learn. If something isn't going your way, quit. Just put your head down and shuffle along with the other losers. Don't write letters or try to make a difference. Just go away quietly and don't make a fuss. Good post.

Default Programming

I can't imagine Speed would totally give up motorcycle coverage, however I can understand its desire to eliminate "Two Wheel Tuesday." It doesn't make sense from a programming perspective to narrow-cast like that. For the racing enthusiast it's very convenient but since there is no cross-programming it doesn't allow new viewers to be exposed to motorcycle racing. The die-hards (like myself) tune in, the others tune out.

Think about it, you don't see other networks do "hard news Tuesday" or "sitcom Tuesday."

It's pretty clear by watching the motorcycle racing programming that Speed is selling little or no ad time. All those commercials with the 800 number (MMI, etc.) are not paid for in advance. The network gets a small fee if someone bites and calls the 800 number and/or signs up. In TV these commercials are run as a last resort (as are Public Service Announcements) when you can't sell real ad time.

It's sad to say, but we are a (very) vocal minority.

Default Longride is right and jaypuck is wrong

I am right with longride on this. First those ratings may not be accurate. Writing letters do work but even if they don't I don't want to say I didn't try. That is not the example I want to give to my kids.

Speed TV continues to go downhill. It started when they changed the name from Speedvision and sold out to NASCAR. And now it continues as they slowly push motorcycle racing out of the programming. Whatever, let them pander to the idiot stock car fans. In the end the network will suffer for their own short sightedness. NASCAR SUCKS!

longride, i think you read something that wasn't there. I never said anything against writing letters. And I don't know about your kids, but my kids will be raised to seek out, know and accept the truth--then they do something about it, smartly.
