Note sure -- I'd have to re-read the fine print of my auto insurance policy -- but I believe that any claims resulting from my commission of a felony are not covered by my insurance.

I guess the police can do a quick computer check before beginning the chase -- if the perp has insurance, and that insurance would cover any bystanders killed or injured in the chase, go for it and let the chips fall where they may!

As you suggest, I suspect that a large percentage of those who run from the police have no insurance anyway! Maybe the owner of the stolen vehicle (or his/her insurance company) should pick up the tab?

Wrong Bob, you'd sue the vehicale manufacturer for building the bike, then sue the dealership that sold it for selling it to someone who would use it in such a manner, Then sue the anti-theft alarm makers for not including their product with each new (or used) vehicale sold.

you asked, "You really think this kid deserved to die because he didn't want to get caught with a little weed?"

my answer: no, i think he deserved to die because he ran from the police for a stupid reason. even at the height of my teen-stoopid years, i would never think of doing something so stoopid. make that STOOPID. so, yeah, the gene pool is a better place as a result. RIP, squid.

You're right... as I've seen coverage on this, I don't think it had anything to do with motorcyclists.

But the squid stuff is still true.

Marijuana may be a controlled substance, but I wouldn't consider it to be dangerous.

small amounts of marijuana in michigan is a misdemeanor. running from police, however, is not.

he didn't run from cops to make a politcal stand on behalf of NORML.

he didn't run because of an in-depth knowledge of the criminal justice system.

he didnt run because it's cool.

he ran because he's STOOPID. RIP, squid.

"Civil disobediance in this situation would have been setting up picket lines around the docks, or maybe boycotting the ef'n tea."

Myself and everyone I know still actively participates in this boycott to this day by drinking coffee.

Not to mention the lies about three wheelers back in the 80's.

I agree he was stupid to run. I never said he was making a stand based on any kind of in-depth knowledge. I was saying maybe we should look at this incident and say "Yeah, this guy was stupid, but why do many people run from the police and why does it almost always have grisly outcomes." That's all, man, just stand back and try to learn something from it. Don't just say "Yep that guy was stupid now let's move on". I guess that's the difference between people who care about what happens to people in the future no matter what their intelligence level, and those who think only 'smart' people should be given any consideration or afterthought. Oh, and 'dogbreath'? don't be so harsh punto.
