1. As to what they can testify to in court, I KNOW what I am talking about. They CAN say they estimated the speed at 100mph+. They DO NOT need to have been clocking the bikes. Now, that being said, a jury can take into account that they are not EXPERT WITNESSES. So, unless these riders can come up with an EXPERT to say they were not doing said speed, then the PREPONDERANCE of evidence says guilty as charged. The model of bike has NO BEARING on the case, as that was what was reported in a clipping and was not testimony.

2. Sorry if I came off heavy handed, but you sounded more worried about the 'libel' case that these guys would file, rather than the destruction and injuries they caused. My post was not negative, just truth.

3. The real tragedy, in my opinion, is the way people will come the the defense of THESE criminals, citing everything from faulty reporting to 'oh it's just a squid'. Let some Harley guy do something and "hey we know THEY ALL have problems' right? Since I have personally witnessed many fatalities caused by exactly this type of riding, I condemn it even more strongly than the average person. Seeing a 16 year old girl, up close and personal, with her neck broken because 2 A-Holes were racing and t-boned the car will get your attention real quick. Incedents like this will get us ALL in trouble with the lawmakers, so it's time to condemn these jerks to the max. Rant off.

It's not pointless to watch the news. Just don't take what is said as Gospel. Just realize it is ONE SIDE of a story and not the whole of it.

Yeah, but Late Apexing, by itself, does not mean max braking, max lean or max acceleration. It's just a line that gives the rider more options on the part of the road that is hidden from the corner entrance.

Performing any kind of apex on the road using max lean, brake, and throttle is suicidal.

Default You're completely right

I agree. THe news media is terrified of analysing any aspect of our life style intellegently. They are limited to sensationalism, Freedom of speech means the best voice you can buy and dare i say, porn. The economy only counts, not quality of life.

Let me ramble. Why don't you ever see a story about the egregious road construction boondoggles that have benefited nobody but the trucking companies and the material service companies for the past twenty years. No noticable improvement has been made to any road, There is gravel all over everything and the green grass is gone from the shoulder. When they widen a road they either yellow off the median, leaving no new lanes, or they don't mark lanes or whatever. I'm so mad at the journalists that talk about nothing important at all that I'm rrambling. But hey, teemsters kill more people then the 9/11 terrorists did every month, and the press won't talk about it.

I've owned one Kawasaki, a '94 ZX-7...Ninja. Worst bike I've ever owned. Now one less Ninja rider in the world. LOL!

Default The traction circle.

100% beaking and 100% accelleration do not imply usage of 100% traction. Look for the traction circle for the answers...some bikes exceed the traction circle will full accelleration, some don't.

1. I agree. I just was saying that the witness can't testify that they were going that fast, but they can estimate. Like I said the model of the bike thing was a stretch, but it wouldn't surprise me if some lawyer brought it up.

2. Not at all worried about the libel case, more upset about the poor reporting of the news media (who would decide in favor of those morons anyway? Well, I guess it is America, and OJ is a free man...).

3. Amen! I've seen it more often than I'd like in ER where I work too, granted, I'm not a first responder, like you (FF, right? What do you think of the new Fire engine red Harley? Nice bike...) but it makes me sick every time it happens (also makes my co-workers question my sanity as they know I ride). It is a tragedy when anyone dies in a vehicular accident in my book (people weren't designed to travel at speeds more than about 20 mph), but so much more so when they are not at fault. I don't mind quite as much if people injure themselves if they're stupid (Darwin Awards, anyone?). We are all bonded together by the fact that we ride, no matter what it is that we ride. Unfortunately, you can't pick your relatives, so to speak, and dummies are part of our group too. A shame. Peace.
