Default New CPSC Lead-ban Affects Youth M/Cs and ATVs

Another gem of poorly written legislation...

CPSC Spells Out Enforcement Policy For New Lead Limits In Children’s Products Effective February 10

This rule, which went into effect February 10th, effectively outlaws the bikes and ATVs built for kids 12 and under. The AMA has already sent the CPSC a letter -

AMA letter to CPSC regarding OHV lead content

If you feel like piping up, send a letter to the CPSC, or to your Congressperson(s) to protest.

We can thank the helmet law supporters for this. Even though the enforcement of this rule is completely insane the govt is going through with it.

Oh, BTW, all those who told me that I was crazy for years because I predicted eventual motorcycle bans by nanny staters.... looks like you are the crazy ones after all. Cowards too. Oh Govt.. please protect me. Whining little bytches. Please stop riding. You pervert the sport.

Cool

Most Chinese knock offs are the vehicles that spawned this crap. And the only reason we have probably 15 mini bikes that we cant sell.

There's a stay that's been issued until 2010, if you're a Librarian.

CPSC Issues Stay on Implementing Lead Ban*on Children's Products; Libraries Get Breather - 2/2/2009 - Library Journal

Or, if you can PROVE that the lead-parts are "inaccessible" and cannot be accidentally ingested or chewed-upon.......

ATV and Dirt Bike Lead Ban Exemption - Motorcycle USA

Hmmm. Maybe not. Read the comments. Local dealers still are not selling them.

Yeah, I read through them. So far as I understand it, NOBODY understands whether or not the reprieve is for ATVs and Motos or not.

And from what I've read about the CPSC - they cannot penalize a manufacturer for making lead-shot-filled melamine-laced baby rattles, but can send the Mal-Wart store Manager to jail for selling them..............

THAT is reason enough for most Moto Dealers to pull everything from the showroom floor.

The gun/moto/public-use-land Grabbers have won another round.

55% of the US voted for the regulatory state. Don't expect any relief. The moocher/looters are the majority now and deToqueville's prediction re: democracy is coming true as we speak.
