You'll have much better luck with a Thunderbird, probably a Sport. Great looking bike, and it has 95% of the same 900cc motor.

I think the Speed Triple and Daytona variants had a little cam work.

But, you'll still have a time finding one under $3000.

A minor point; '99 was the first year for the 955cc mill.

Thunderbird Sports are pretty thin on the ground too I'm afraid. People tend to hang on to them
