Default New VStrom 1000

It appears Suzuki has shown the new DL1000 for 2014 at Intermot. The word "concept" appears here and there, but there seems to be a consensus that this is the new bike:

http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bike...-1000-concept/

They've changed the 19" front for a 17", added traction control, new radial-mount 4-pot calipers, and updated the FI. The original high-mount dual exhaust is now a single can on the right. The Vee's signature dual-headlights are gone and replaced with what looks like a direct ripoff of the Versys setup.

Unless they have some big news in the pricing/value department, they might find out when they finally get into the ADV/DP hall that everyone's dance cards are already full!

BMW, Triumph, Ducati, KTM and a couple other cats and dogs already have at least one bike out now...

And Honda, if you count that new weird looking Bike/Scooter thingy.

Default Looks great.

This bike has a great look to it. If the new version has all the new technologies and the proper price point Suzuki should sell a bunch of them.

That's what I'm thinking. If they roll it out at $17-$18k, it's not going to do well. If they price it closer to the Triumph 800 series, they'll sell a boatload of them. However, they upped the price of the new DL650 to MORE than what I paid for my DL1000 a few years back, so I have a feeling this new one will be expensive.

It will have what I consider the best engine configuration for this type of bike though; the L-90 is just about perfect for a number of reasons. It's narrow, it's comparatively light for a given displacement, and its extremely smooth without adding balance shafts.

At least the pipe will allow some decent capacity luggage.

It's a very nice looking bike. It just doesn't look like a V-Strom to me. Heck, it doesn't even look like a Suzuki anymore. It looks like a European bike now. .. With that duck bill, if I owned one I would nickname it "duck". You know, like the Italian one.

It looks like a Japanese interpretation of a European-interpretation of a late-'00s-Japanese motorcycle....

I'm thinking "Funduro" here, the old 'strom was a pooch (except yours Ken, Your Vstrom is very rugged and manly looking and not at all what one would call gay..) but at least you knew what it was. This looks like a Rotax Beemer or something. I'm afraid they missed the mark in my opinion..

There's been a lot of chatter about "beaks" on the VStrom forum (where manly men discuss manly bikes in a heterosexual and manly way). I've always thought the beak was a BMW invention, or at least that they'd been first to stylize the high front fender of a real offroad bike. But it appears Suzuki was first with their "Dr. Big" model back in the '80's.
