My sis-in-law has a Prius that she regularly gets 65-70mpg in. But don't let that "Toyota" name fool you - it's still a piece of shyte.

Oh yeah? Course Dad's is new yet, but it sure seems like a very nice car. It's very quiet and well made, or seems to be at this point.

All that since new.

It's a piece of shyte - just like my Wife's (one-third the price) '08 Hyundai Accent.

Car and Driver just did a comparo with the prius, insight and a 98 chevy metro. Fun read.

I have an 08 GW. It gets between 35 -45 mpg. It depends on all the obvious parameters, i.e. highway, wind, speed, luggage, passenger, traffic etc. The best part of the GW is it takes 86 octane or up. It runs just great on low test. So consider that also. BTW, what really tickled me was my first service is at 4K and even then it amounts to a fancy oil change.

Here in the UK the prius is known as the "pias" & along with the BMW X5 & merc ML series is the most hated car on the road.
