I'm 6' and find the SV650 to be very comfortable, even for long rides. You can always add a taller seat, if you need more room, and the bars are easy to change. Weaknesses are very well documented and most are easily addressed, if desired (this site even has a series on upgrading one).

I wouldn't call it a hooligan bike though - it's plenty fast and will certainly loft the front, but doesn't have the demeanor of a Speed Triple or Monster...

Does this stuff happen every day, during the day? I wouldn't know because I can't post-up during the day.

Thanks to all the moderators for snuffing out that BS!

Wow, these are some pretty big bikes being recommended, didnt he only have 3k miles under his belt? If that is accurate, a 1000 could be a bit of a change from a Virago dont you think?

Although Seruzawas idea needs to be down-sized imo, it is a good way to go about putting your own bike together. Really not alot of work but custom fitting a headlight and removing clipons for Dirtbike bars.
I saw a very interesting FZ 1 with a custom fit headinght a couple weeks ago at the shop. Iam pretty good at identification when it comes to individual components and bodywork and such. But couldnt figure what the headlight was taken from. Very nice so much so it looked stock, like the bike came that way. Good Luck!!!

Okay, I'd love to downsize it but there aren't many downsized bikes even sold in the USA. How about this? Get an old beater YZ490 and streetify it. It'll blow the doors off of almost anything in a street environment. The US market is waaay too shifted towards bigger bikes (and everything apparently). That Street Triple one of my buddies just got is way more then enough for any rational being. Ditto the Duck 696. It's depressing to look at used bikes and see only race replicas and pork-barrel cruisers. Damm Americans won't have anything top do with the nifty 250s and 400s and various nakeds sold elsewhere.

If I were to "downsize" from my Uly, it would either be to a Triumph Street Triple or a Honda CB900F cafe racer.

Yes, Dr. I had an '86 YZ490 with a plate on it, rode it on the street for 3 years, never got a traffic ticket. It was a "summer only" bike because the fake lights off my Cushman Airborne didn't work, and around here it gets dark real late in summer, so I could ride it to work (San Fernando Valley to LAX). No "street bike" ever out drag raced me, even with knobbies I ould kick ass on psuedo race bikes on the 'crest. Why I sold it, I'll never know...

What? your talking about a hooligan bike which when fairings are removed any bike is viable? Hell even bikes that dont have any fairings could be used? GSF400, GSF600, GSXR600, GSF650, SV650,
FZ6, R6S, R6, CB400, CBR600F4I, 599, FZ600,FZR600, YZF600,
750s,(kaw) 650r, ZZR600, and those are just off the top. You on the other hand could probably think up even more, mainly because your older.

My CR500 has a streetable title, but it would attract cops like an armed robbery around here.

I did try it with a different CR500 about 10 years ago and it really defines "Hooligan bike". Try it, you'll love it.

You can't do that. We couldn't call you Dr. Pulley any more.
