Big Hello to everyone
wooooohoooooo 1st Post! I have been riding 600cc sports now for 3 years, started with a 2001 CBR 600F4i (Sport), then a 600 ZX6R Ninja, and currently a 2001 R6. i have been wanting a change/upgrade for a while now. Im stuck now on two bikes, and would like to ask anyone thats had any experiance on either to give me some feedback and/or opinions. The Two Bikes im considering are: Honda CBR 2008/9 RR Fireblade(The New one) OR Ducati 1098S or even maybe an 848. I love the look and flare of the Duc, but heard bad things about reliability, and of course they are more expensive. I ride for Fun and pleasure, dont really commute or anything like that but would go on day trips riding somewhere scenic etc.... Im 5ft 8, 80 Kilos and have no problems with the mild discomfort of sportbikes. Anyone ridden any of these or have any experiance, all opinions welcome. Thanks for reading. Chris ![]() |

I'm sure a more expert opinion is forthcoming, but from what I've read, you'd be happiest on the 848.
I'm not crazy about Honda's in general, and reviews on the 1098 say it has no business on the street. Welcome to the forum!

THX pushrod,
![]() i was under the impression that the only real difference between 848 and 1098s is the engine. Chasssis is fundamentaly the same? i'll hold tight for more opinions. |

It's a matter of preference. I'd probably go for the Honda, but that's because it's less expensive. Actually, if I were considering 2009 600cc sportbikes, I'd get the new Ninja ZX-6R. It has won all the 2009 600cc sportbike comparos. Yes, the 848 is very similar to the 1098, but with less grunt: YouTube - 2008 Ducati 848 Motorcycle Review Road Test

I was sort of getting tired of 600cc bikes. There all the same, ok all the JAP ones are the same. I think Ducati is going to cost too much to maintain. twice as many service intervals, and i bet parts are more expensive and it breaks down more often. I was hoping the new ones might be more reliable.

As they were closing the local Duc shop the parts guy offered to show me all the Ducs out back, awaiting parts. Apperantly they are going to reopen, without Ducati.

If you're tired of Japanese 600s, maybe you should look at a Triumph Daytona 675 (if you still want to stick in the 600cc class of sportbikes).

I have been looking at them since the 675 came out a few years ago, was thinking of going straight to 1000cc league, but by coincidence saw one today in white blitzing up the road...
i was looking at it and being really tempted.... LOL So we've dismissed the Duc and now the dilemma is 675 Daytona or the new Fireblade. PMSL Im goin to bore you guys to death!! ![]() |
