Manufacturers Want 800cc Bikes To Remain After 2012 | MotoMatters.com | Kropotkin Thinks
looks like the manufactures are flexing again to keep the current engine size for Motogp. Or will they.

Well, the 800cc V-4 IS after all, God's own choice for moto-engine configuration. You'd know that, if you paid-attention to all the 800cc V-4's that every moto-manufacturer has as its Anchor Model.........

Pretty much. What will they do with all those 800cc V-Fours they developed? They are EVERYWHERE, like biodiesel. It was just a matter of time until it all took over like $4.00 gallon of gasoline.

I just read in CW that they were going to run 800's until 2012 and then go back to liter size.
Motorcycle racing is getting pretty hard to like these days.

I think the 800's were the worst move and heavily supported by the Repsol sponsors amoungst others. Should have either kept the 990'z or stayed with the twostrokes.
Would love to see the twostrokes with all the electronics, even though I hate the electronics they probably could have tamed them to be rideable.

Yamaha and Ducati are making mad horsepower right now. I'd say that they are the ones behind the mixed motor idea. Theory: Yamaha and Ducati give the factory teams the 1000 cc bikes to ride and develop while leaving the privateers the old motors for a season. R&D for the new motor and the cost of running both platforms would ultimately be cheaper for the season than trucking out 1000 cc motors to everyone all at once. All the teams break out the old 990 motors and give them updates on the bench to get ready for 2012. Everyone 'cept Honda. I have a feeling that Honda will continue with the V4 over the V5. Keep the new measurements in mind with that Honda statement. No GMPness here. Just practical. Ducati is already issuing statements that the Desmo RR will re-appear with the carbon frame in 2012 for the street. Why wouldn't they just update the big bang 990 for the track, too?
