And then there was Wera that allowed the 500 2strokes against methanol burning 1-4 GSXR1100's. As crazy as that was the racing was alot closer and exciting than pairing up the Buell and inlines imo.

Well, one arbitrary rule set is as good as another. We just pick the set we like. As long as people are entertained and willing to buy tickets it's all good.

Imo it's not an arbitrary rule if its good racing. Albiet as odd as those match ups were, like the aformentioned, they were fun to watch. Road coarse racing always evens things up when it's a David and goliath style match up.

I know I was glued to my seat every weekend watching the little Vee eating up realestate in the turns and giving it up on the straights, but sometimes winning.

Prior to that, there were no limits on number of cyliders, or number of transmission speeds. That bought about amazing bikes like Honda's 250/6, Yamaha's square 4 250, and Suzuki's 3 cylinder, 14 speed, 19 horsepower 50 (never raced)!

Contrary to popular belief I love a mixed field but its got to provide either good racing or at best close racing. Is this why the rules were changed in 68? Too many different configurations?
