American Ben Spies was lucky to finish Imola race two at all after a collision with Aprilia's Max Biaggi on lap thirteeen.

Biaggi and his teamate for the weekend Marco Simoncelli were in a torrid battle for position when on lap thirteen Biaggi went wide on the entry to the chicane before the front straight as Simoncelli came through. Biaggi nearly took Spies out when he came back on the track. Spies rode off the track and onto the gravel and was fortunate not to crash.

Spies rode off the track again a short time later when in a battle with reigning British Superbike champion Shane Byrne. He was quickly back on track and ran down Byrne, finishing fifth.

250 man Simoncelli finished on the podium, which is amazing given his lack of track time on the Aprilia Superbike.

Biaggi was coming for him afterward, and was closing, but ran out of laps.

Fabrizio's margin of victory was three and a half seconds. He was crying in the victory circle area after the race.

Current WSBK championship points are--gulp--Haga/391, Spies/388, Fabrizio/330 and Rea/263.

Ben said the R1 was like riding a 600 this past weekend, Ah, electronics. When they work right you have 220+ hp. When they don't you're riding a stock bike. Oops. It's alright. Ben's in the hunt for a title in his rookie year. That should make those WSBK guys very nervous.

It just wasn't Ben's day. Good races, it will keep the chase going right to the end.

Who is that commentator that covers these races? He's a frikin nutcase, he starts shouting in the middle of a conversation like he's having a siezure.

Good commentators move on to more profitable venues. Motorcycling commentators are pretty much the bottom of the barrel due to the low viewership numbers. We'd be better off with some enthusiastic amateurs than these bargain basement "pros" who only see their job as a stepping stone.

Comparatively speaking he is alot more exciting to hear than the American commentators, I think.

Always the pillar of positivity. Dude, their was like 62,000 live spectators? Of course that's europe though. But still according to you no one watches roadracing.

62,000 live spectators is pretty sad for Europe. Great for the US. However NASCAR draws 300,000 in the US for a race. Last AMA Superbike race I went to had maybe 1000 people there. So as far as TV ratings go, yes, no one watches road racing. I'm not sure what the advantage is in pretending that reality is not what it is.

I was mostly kidding, it was a good show; especially now that Speed has HD. The on-bike cameras and moving cameras they position around the track make the coverage fantastic.

And let me guess your probably one of those 300,000 people watching the toliet bowl racing. Its not pretending its call love for the sport. Ironically something you seem to want to stomp out. I know Iv been to AMA races and have never seen only 1000 people.
