Default New Lid........

Since I'm officially a 50+ year old rider on a touring bike I figured I'd better get with the program and buy a 3/4 lid. I picked up a Shoei RJ Platinum R in blindingly Bright White for a paltry $209 and free shipping from an internet motorsikkle warehouse and used it for the first time for this morning's commute. Comfort, fit and finish are up to Shoei's usual excellent standards, if you have a Shoei head they're comfy right out of the box, no break in req'd.

It was around 60 this morning so I was able to feel the cooling effect of the vents which seemed to work well, all around visibility is excellent though my Multitek is almost as good. The helmet felt well balanced on my melon no neck strain or weird weight issues in fact the helmet is so light you hardly notice it. The only negitive is that it was noisier than I had expected though it still wasn't that bad.

All in all a pretty good deal on a comfy well made lid, I'll use it in the warmer months and keep my Multitek for cooler weather and rain, and yes I'm aware that a 3/4 lid doesn't provide as much protection as a full face so let's put that one to bed right off the bat. Heat bothers me and I like lots of air when I ride, most of the time i have the faceshield open on my F/F helmets so this is the logical extension of that.

You need vents on a 3/4 helmet? You live on the Bizarro World?

Tsk tsk. You are coming closer and closer to the dark side with this one. You mean you are going to actually decide for yourself which risks you are willing to take and accept the responsibility for that risk? That is a novel concept where you live. I figured you all needed some government asswipe to tell you what you need to do 24/7.

Does it have a "This end to the Front" sticker in it?

Don't want you riding around like that girl on the scooter...

I've been Eyeballing the new Shark Evoline, but no one sells Shark anywhere close.

yes in the Democratic Peoples Republic of Seattle independent thought is discouraged, since I live in Unincorporated Pierce County I get a pass because I'm already considered a flaming reactionary knee-jerk rightwing extremist.

At any rate it's a nice helmet and the vents should keep the top of my head cool

Excellent!

I've seen some guys riding with BMX helmets. Lots of ventilation, and a "DOT" sticker is just a Dymo away.

I used to have a Bell 3/4 that what leather covered. It was the best fitting 3/4 helmet I ever owned. Don't know if they still make it but I originally bought it out of a Dennis Kirk catalog. Think I spent less than $150 for it.

You could've gotten a DOT certified puffy hat.

Cool

Dont you want to protect yourself more at this age? Or did you not wear a helmet at all in the past?

Moke, the man's over 50. I think he's a Big Boy now, and can make his own decisions about full or 3/4. He didn't say he was tossin' his old fullface in the rubbish bin..........
