Basically European consumer products went on a development hiatus throughout WWII. Look at some of the stuff they were starting to put in cars in the 30s.... ohc and stuff. The war put an end to development. Then Britain was devastated by the war and they had a pretty terrible Govt that saw business as an enemy and it also loved its wartime powers so it kept the economy down and the people on rationing until the mid-50s! So you were still getting 1930s motorcycles from Britain in 1960. Brit tax policy was brutal. This is why you couldn't get parts... the companies could not afford to stock parts and so their parts production as "just in time". Yeah that worked real well. You add this to the notorious Brit conservatism, "If it was good enough for King James it's good enough for me." So it's not entirely the fault of Brit industry because of the hostile Labor Govt and amazingly incompetent Prime ministers like Wilson who actually stuff like said, "Britain should be a less powerful nation."

Hmmmmm. Sounds familiar.

I want the whole deal when I croak, sword in my hand, dog at my feet, couple of maidens to keep me warm, nice big funeral pyre.....I plan on arriving in style.
