Default MO Movie Review: DEATHSPORT

Deathsport, an 80's schlockfest which features David Carradine in his finest role. Reportedly he was totally stoned on hash during filming. Also featuring Claudia Jennings. She was reportedly loaded on speed the entire time. As the movie unfolds the hardened bad movie buff rubs his hands in glee as the cheap title is musically backed by a single synthesizer. The revelation of Roger Corman as producer seals the deal.

Why do you ask is this review on MO? That dear reader is because this movie features DEATH MACHINES.

Apparently in the future there are only cities and wastelands after the "Neutron Wars".. whatever those are. A low rent psycho runs the evil city. His army of disposable henchmen ride DEATH MACHINES, which are apparently Yamaha 250s with some silly crap bolted to them. Reportedly the added fairings made the bikes especially ill handling and this is apparent as one watches the stunts. DEATH MACHINES are supposed to be deadly war devices but they seem to be only deadly to the riders as these bikes blowup in magnesium backed pyrotechnics whenever they fall down or run into something or get hit by a plastic sword. Yes, David Carradine carries a plastic sword with magically appearing and disappearing blood on it.

Typically stupid and illogical as befits an 80's Roger Corman apocalypse movie. Things to watch for include a disturbing number of crotch shots of David Carradine jumping around shirtless in a loincloth. Also shirtless (twice) is Claudia Jennings and some other chick (once). Naturally the addition of full nudity ensures a healthy queing up on Netflix beginning with Ken. Filmed at Indian Dunes, naturally. As well as Fort MacArthur.

If you liked Nam Angels you'll loooove deathsport.

I think I remember this one.

Made DeathRace 2000 seem like an Oscar winner...

I love these schlock movies. Way back when, my buddy's parents opened a video rental store. Remember those?

After the store closed, I would show up with a 12 pack of beer and we'd play the schlockiest movie we could find. We'd get drunk and make up our own dialog.

Good times!
