I agree 100%. If he didn't build it himself, who cares who built it.

I though you guys only judged a real rider by the miles he/she logs a year, not just if he built it himself?

Boy you guys have alot of requirments for your elite club?

That's why it's elite,...

I hate to use a tired cliche` but if you have to ask you wouldn't understand.......

Anyone can buy a stock bike & ride the phuk out of it, hey you're fine by me. If you want to do some custom work, bolt on some trinkets, add a pipe and cams that's fine because everyone knows you didn't build it, you just personalized it a little.

Now with a full-on chopper or bobber, streetfighter or cafe` bike that's a different story, that takes some work and some dedication. The question becomes who's work and dedication? If you planned it out and built it yourself or pieced it together from a basket case then yes you have some sweat-equity in it and you have a right to be proud, even a rattle-can black beater can have class because it is what it is.

If you just bought it then what? so you spent money and you have a "chopper"...good for you....what does that prove? you have maintained good credit and have overpaid to buy into a scene you don't understand? Hey I'm happy for you.. Jay Leno does it everyday.

That's why we say to this guy, nice bike, if you built it you did a fine job. It's a nice lookin scoot. If you just bought it at least have the decency to point out who did the work for you.

See, not too hard after all, just old school.

I don't care who built it, now how many miles you have on it. It's a fine bike. And I promise I won't make any jokes about your shaft (drive, that is).

Only if those are Seattle miles - which carry a 10:1 ratio against other types of miles, such as Chicago or Utah miles................

Now, wait a minute! Just because I can't paint doesn't mean I can't appreciate fine art. As long as he has a legit job and he works hard for his money, then I say he can be proud of his bike (whether he built it himself or not).

It's false logic to say that just because a person didn't do it themselves then they're not justified. Phil Jackson wasn't a great basketball player, but he is one of the best coaches of all time (moment of silence for Red Auerbach). Lance Armstrong never built a bike frame, but he could ride the wheels off one.

Jay Leno is rich, and he is a motorcycle enthusiast. He probably knows more about more motorcycles that many posters (self included) on this website.

I appreciate fine art myself as well as classical music and architucture, I don't go around saying I painted it or wrote it or built though nor did Lance Armstrong claim to have built his bikes.

Jay Leno may well know more about bikes than me but he doesn't restore them or maintain them himself, he has a wealthy mans pride in owning something nice but the bottom line is he's trading off someone elses skills. All he's really doing is spending money.
