I have a '89 GB500 from Honda. The CDI is cutting out and I need to replace it or at the very least repair it. Please let me know if you have one available. Thank you.

Are you sure it's the cdi unit? Usually those things either work or they don't. They very seldom act intermittently. Have you tried inspecting the peripheral components? Broken wires?

I have the bike at the repair shop right now (a good shop I have been using since 1996), and they are telling me it is the cause of my hard starts and rough idle. They stated my carb and fuel delivery is good and the electrical system is fine. The bike has 13,000 miles on it and has always been garaged. So I am taking their word for it.
They are stating the soldered contact points on the curcuit board are taking the abuse of the engine vibration. I am a little skeptical but I am not sure of the cause yet. Last edited by gb500_rider : 05-31-2008 at 01:18 PM. |

Well, it's true electronic componants don't like vibration. If that's the case you need a new one, most of them can't be repaired that I know of.
