$1.2M a year to teach MSF and off-road courses to captive audiences.
Wow. That's a bunch of per diem!

Does that include those nifty orange vests they make them wear?...
seriously I think it's a good idea, every week there's some poor SOB from Ft. Lewis who just got back from Iraq wadding himself on a new sportbike. It's a cryin' shame for these kids to survive a year or two in the sandbox only to bite it on I-5 a week after they get home.

$52 million taxpayer dollars for motorcycle training? Another fine example of wasteful government spending.

It would seem like it but if that training keeps just a few pilots from getting killed then it pays for itself. If it saves just one life......

Consider the cost of training of even the ordinary snuffy. Tack on the pay out for buying the farm or the medical costs even. It's nothing personal it's just business.
That may seem alittle cold but it's part of the story. If we can save say 150 lives....

We've had a thread on this before. The Navy is tired of having so many young Marines and sailors get back from the SandBox with a pocketful of money and buying a landspear.
Sure, it's the common 'rulemaking for the lowest common denominator', but the youngsters were offing themselves at an alarming rate. But still. $52 Million!?
