I'm not sure what this accomplishes unless it occasionally gets a motorcyclist who has never considered what riding to work might involve to give it a shot. I'm dubious about it "raising awareness"
Personally, I'll stick with my "ride to work any time it's reasonable" philosophy. |

I noted on here before I have almost a perfect record of nearly getting creamed on "Ride to Work" day, so much so that that's about the only day I drive if I don't have to. I don't know what it is, some kind of karmic payback or something but I ride almost everyday with hardly ever an "incident"...along comes RtW day and I have a bullseye on my backside for every idiot cager out there I swear.....

I like this event. I have no good reason why I do, I'm sure it doesn't do motorcycling, motorcyclists, or society any real good. But it's fun to put up my little poster on the outside of my cube. Maybe I like it because it gives me a false sense of superiority over the drones in their Corollas.
I asked our HR manager, "Lori the HR Lady" if I could send a mass email about the event to our site the first year I worked at GE. You'd have thought I'd asked to use the break room for an orgy or something; her email refusal was really harsh. Not unusual... A few months ago we had a GE chili contest. We were supposed to "market" our entries. I ruined my career opportunities at GE for life by putting up posters for my "Super Colon-Blow Chili." I had a picture from the "Thunderpants" kid's movie that showed a fat kid farting through a rocket nozzle and throwing a twenty foot flame. Lori the HR Lady ran around the building ripping down the posters, and then stormed into my bosses office in a rage. I think she would have fired me on the spot if she could have. Hell, I stole the name from a GeeEee TeeVee show (SNL/NBC). What is so offensive about a fat kid farting? Oh yeah: ride your damn bike on the day. Just because you can and "they" can't.

Ken you're a vet for crissakes, didn't you learn anything? repeat after me the Chiefs Mantra, it works just as good in the corporate world as it does on the boat...ready?...
"Pass the buck, place the blame, take the credit" ....they weren't YOUR posters she was ranting about..didn't you say you heard (insert coworkers name here)was talking about "tweaking Lori's ass but good this time?".......tell enough people that and it becomes truth, you could sign the dam* things at that point and ol' Lori wouldn't believe it..

I think this event makes a lot of sense. Even more so this year with gas prices through the roof and motorcycles being a lot easier on the gasoline. I'm not sure why this day would be more dangerous than other days though.

Using my "New Years Eve Drinking Philosophy", this will probably be one day I don't ride to work.
