The XR1200 is pretty cool. I've heard a rumor that it will be sold here next year, possibly replacing the standard 883 Sportster. We'll see if that pans out or not. But it's probably still got limited appeal. It's good for H-D, may enhance the performance image a bit and capture some new customers, but sport bikes are not what Harley is about. I think anything the Harley brand gets from the MV deal will be mostly subtle stuff and maybe an engine or chassis for something like an XR model as a trial balloon. I doubt you'll see an H-D badged Brutale.

This seems more like a move to push farther into a segment that H-D doesn't have total command of.

And let's face it, ease of wrenching a bike isn't a big selling point for most people these days.

Gringo refers to Americans. It is a friendly reminder of the general kocksucking nature of the yanks, commonly used as “gringo hijo de puta” or “a la mierda con los gringos”.

From everybodies favourite online reference, Wikipedia.org

Gringo (feminine, gringa) is a term in the Spanish and Portuguese languages used in some countries of Latin America to refer to foreigners from different cultures, particularly English-speakers, and especially from the United States, although it can also refer to people from Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries, including in some cases other countries of Latin America itself.

Some disagreement exists among English speakers regarding whether gringo is a derogatory term. The American Heritage Dictionary and other English dictionaries classify the term as "offensive slang", "usually disparaging" or "often disparaging". The term gringo does lend itself to derogatory, paternalistic or endearing connotations sometimes, depending on the context and the intent of the user. However, many native speakers who use it do not do so pejoratively, as is also the case with some English speakers. The enunciation of the word can often give away whether it was meant in a derogatory manner or not. There is furthermore some variation in the connotation of this word from country to country within Latin America, and between Latin America and the Anglosphere.

Better not let gringo hear you or he won't let you mow his lawn and clean his pool while your wife is cooking him dinner and your daughter is cleaning his bathroom, as in go get me a drink patron.

The term "Gringo" originated in our war with Mexico, when a popular US Army marching song was "Green Grow the Laurels"...the Mexicans heard this, and translated "Green Grow" to "Gringo".

You really should have known....

"It was and is a good idea."

I think time will show this to be incorrect. Harley will lose money on this deal, it's just a matter of how much they will lose.

Well I hate to disagree with the resident master of the skin flute but you've (unintentionally) proven many times over that being a flaming jackass has no culturally specific requirement.
