Default Helmet Laws Continue to Suck

So, here's this article about our weekly South Florida Motorcyclist Road Kill incident. The article describes in detail how the riders were run over repeatedly by motorists following behind them on I-95. Then the f'ckers make a point that: THEY WEREN'T WEARING HELLLLLMUUUUUTTTTSSS!!!!!

BTW: word on the street is that the bike was seen to do an endo for no apparent reason. The guy in the 'Stang allegedly said they were riding along when the bike upended and started flipping over. This is rumor and innudeno...

So, a semi driver commits a hit and run, but it's the lack of a helmet that's important.

Do you understand why I freakin' HATE the media? All of 'em. Airheads.

Bah, it's all luck, kismet, roll of the dice. I rode on the street for YEARS without wearing a helmet. In fact, I rode like a maniac without a helmet from 1973until the law in Kalifornia went in to effect in...what? 83? 86?

I was wearing ALL my protective gear when I got hit by that idiot in the Hyundai. Didn't have a scratch on me, except everything inside the hide bag was crunched. I would be dead if I hadn't been wearing my Arai, which got ruined.

No regrets.

I tend to think when your times up it's up. The main reason I wear atgatt is that I don't want to smear my hide down the road like strawberry jam or break something that's going to take forever to heal. As for helmets saving your life, I believe they do and I believe wearing one has saved my life a few times, at least saved me from being a cabbage. That's reason enough for me. I'm OK with a helmet law, I think bicyclists, horse riders and skiers should wear them too, I also think side curtain airbags should be mandatory, lawn chemicals should be banned and Muslims should be rounded up into labor camps then deported.

If you have seen as many people die as I have, you know that when it is your time it doesn't matter what you have on. Cops and Firefighters are probably the least safe people I know. That is because we know what most people have yet to figure out about death and dying.

When you see someone who is closer to an exploding 82mm mortar round survive while a someone further away is hit.... when you throw a frag and it happens to have an extremely rare short fuse and goes off after only 2 seconds.... when an RPG round hits your gunboat and doesn't go off....well, you begin to figure out that there's only so much you can do to protect yourself. While I don't believe in fate or destiny it's quite true that shyt happens and that there only so much anyone can do to prevent a bad outcome.

Take reasonable precautions and then get on with life. Spending a lot of time worrying about it will gain you nothing. Succumbing to fear results in a miserable life. That's one thing you know about motorcyclists, if nothing else, they are able to overcome fear far more than your average cage dweller.
