Default Update: Epilogue

Iron Butt Rally - 2007 IBR - 2007 Iron Butt Rally: Epilog

Seems the rather loose-definition of "outside help" planning an individual's route when competing in the IBR has finally caught up with the IBA.

They're gonna Fix that PDQ..........

Oh - almost fergot: There were less "Finishers" than had been previously-reported. Everything I wrote in my first post - just ignore it.

Don't know if you caught that to be a finisher you had to have 190K points, so many of the DNF's were not mechanical conditions, but poor route planning, or not truly having an Iron Butt, in addition to mechanical problems.
I'm not sure how much you can say about a motorcycles reliability from running this rally. If you had the story of each person with a problem that might be illuminating, but as the site points out one guy might have failed trying to average 1,300 miles a day including the haul road in Alaska, while another finished while averaging 800 miles a day in the lower 48.

... but 40% of BMWs didn't finish. Three 1150s blew their hubs. 37% of Hondas didn't finish.

All Suzukis did finish. As did the lone Buell.

All this does indicate something. The most expensive bikes don't guarantee squat as far a reliability goes. Those differences are far beyond some rogue statistical anomaly.
