Listen, I'm glad Victory is an alternative to H-D. And I'm glad that they've stayed aggressive in a bad economy, which, frankly, is why I don't quite get the Indian deal. Why divide their resources now? They don't really have enough critical mass to be adding a fledgling division. I think they should just keep plugging away with their brand and grow their niche.
Polaris doesn't seem to publish the total on-road units sold, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to H-D--and H-D is struggling for customers. Revenue was something like $81 million in 2010.
The cheery sales and growth numbers for 2010 should be taken in context. 2009 was a horrible year for the MC industry as a whole and Victory's sales were way down. They hadn't posted year-over-year sales growth since 2007.
