Yamaha will cooperate with electricity rationing and rolling blackouts while conserving energy through measures including restricting industrial power usage, heating in offices and turning off neon signs. Yamaha Motor is also asking its employees to save electricity as much as possible, both at work and at home.

The tragic thing is, the Reactors in trouble at Fukushima Daiichi actually need people to use electricity to help bring #1 and #3 back under-control; but it's my understanding that the infrastructure (i.e. lines, substations, transformers, etc.) is so damaged that it's a futile hope.

I've been reading reports of them venting steam to bring the pressure down: this tells me the control rods were damaged so they're unable to damp the reaction. Either from the quake itself; OR a system-failure let the reactor "go runaway" for a short time, and the heat of the reaction itself damaged them.

I saw last night that they're just feeding the #1 reactor sea water laced with Boron. Essentially, the makeup is unable to cope with the venting-demands, and they've given-up attempting to salvage the reactors and are just trying to prevent meltdown and damp the reaction any way they can (with the Boron).

Straight sea water will ruin the reactor - but that's better than having another Chernobyl (not that this is likely anyway - the Japanese have got all their shyte together, even in a Disaster, and these are not a dry-containment-type reactors like Chernobyl).

Someone provided me with a link to updates directly from Tepco (the Operator of the Fukushima Daiichi power plant).

All 6 reactors have been "Scrammed" - it's Secondary Reaction that they're dealing with on Unit #1 and #3. I was correct about them losing power and control of the reaction for a short time. The tsunami knocked-out their generators and they had to go to battery backup, which did not last a particularly long time.
