Actually, I think this is a great idea. I have 5 bikes and all have the stock systems on them.
I am tired of listening to open pipe Harleys blasting up and down the road
and rattling my windows day and night. Cops won't do anything because they can't afford DB meters.
2011? Let's go back about 20 years and silence them all.

I told you so.

F*** you @ssholes with open drags and open race cans. You're making it impossible for people who just want a nice custom system that saves some weight and sounds a bit better than stock.

The aftermarket is starting to sell EPA compliant pipes now for Harleys at least. Also Harley's new Screaming Eagle pipes are all EPA compliant as far as I know, I just ordered a set Street Performance Touring Mufflers for mine that are 50 state legal. I'm sure other manufacturers will follow. Dipsh*ts running loud and open pipes are going to have get a few tickets before they figure it out I guess.

I took the D&D's off mine after a few weeks because they were too loud and they were advertised as a quieter pipe, I loved the performance boost but they were just to much for me. Plus they were a 3 inch can and IMO that's too skinny for the bike so they didn't look right. The SE's I ordered are a 4 inch can like the stocker so it should look good on there, boost the top end a little and still be neighborhood quiet at idle and low speeds.

Isn't it already Illegal since '95 to ride/drive with a non-compliant exhaust on an emission-controlled bike or car, anywhere in the US? I seem to recall something about a $25K fine for EACH INCIDENCE being a part of the Dealio.......

Killing and entire industry. There are hundreds of EPA compliant cans. If you can't sell them because they aren't OE then what are those poor bastards making them supposed to do to provide for their families? Stupid wingnuts in Cali are once again picking on the easiest of all minorities to target.
I say, if you can't balance a budget you should be allowed to make new laws. Barry would be in deep trouble, huh?

Seems like the motorcyclists are the easiest group to prey upon, like Ace say's. I mostly ignore these stupids laws when they come about in the media. At least until it effects me personally. I have an exhaust and I dont think its that loud at all. I try and be respectful as much as possible. These laws are nothing new it will be put into action and then fade away just like it came about and people will still run illegal exhaust. You ask me theres a lot more important things that our law makers could be doing right now instead of wasting time with motorcyclists exhaust systems. Seems pretty petty if you ask me.

I like the Harley Guys that just knock the baffles out. When they go buy I'am always impressed at how long it takes them to cover a 3rd of a mile, and how freaking loud it is I just laugh and think to each his own. But I wouldnt try and put a silly law into effect because of it. These laws are made by people like the little old lady sitting in her house all day with nothing to do but complain about everything. Pathetic.

That little ol' muffler company from Texas........wait you're probably too young to remember when ZZtop started out eh? That was their tag line, except substitute "band" for "muffler".....at anyrate, yurp, one and the same. We went through all this 6 months ago when I bought them but yeah, shame on me, I've been running them for awhile now.....I was just too embarrassed to cop to it....

The problem is of course that they give a pretty noticeable boost in horsepower especially in the 3k range on up which is right where you need it pulling onto the freeway so I like to use them........anyway they're too loud for my taste though, that's why I bought the SE's, they're supposed to offer a modest increase in power and still be EPA compliant.
