This is what you get when you insure bikes on arbitrary value (they make it up) & cc for your actuary numbers. State Farm uses this method, too. Companies that I deal with (all the big names you know) use NADA ACV as their base actuary number then they break it into sub category. It's slightly meaner in the claims area that way, but the actual cost of repair is much more accurate.
Those jokers were insuring the bikes at an inflated rate but paying claims based on KBB or NADA rough book. Someone in the motorcycle product development teams for those companies would become unemployed if i were boss.
