What's with this "spec engine" thingie? I can see it for the super-expensive I-4 classes, but 450 singles? You'd think you'd want to encourage development. Heck even I could probably afford to field a 450.

In any case anything that can get new riders going is fine by me.

But can you afford the repair bill when after 25-30 hours of hard running, the whole motor is shot? Cases, crankshaft, head, everything, and it costs you right under four grand to fix it?

Folks wanted a works four striker, and they got it. Just didn't get the machine shop, materials or trained mechanics to go along in the deal.

Hahhahh, and to think I use to get years out of a piston, and never even looked at the crankshaft after all those years on the CR500. Technology takes a giant leap backwards (at least for the home mechanic).

Go to RoadracingWorld.com // Roadracing World Magazine // Motorcycle Roadracing Daily News and see all the reasonbly explained reasons to NOT start this class. Makes sense to me. The new Kawasaki Ninja Twin series sounds like a winner. New suspension bits, exhaust and plastic and you're ready to race. Cheap!

I didn't say that I would have the money left over to do anything else. But I'm thinking at the club level 450s would be cool.

They're just desperate to create some PR buzz since the takeover. Cole Slaw wrestling would probably get more attention.

Speaking of racing, what's up with Mr. Duke? He mentioned joining a racing team and promptly vanished.
