Check also for a rubber vent tube hanging down from the tank. On my 599, that got blocked and I had similar symptoms.

Hello everyone,
Maintaining a proper charge on your motorcycle battery will ensure that your bike is ready to go when you are.
These motorcycle battery tenders will also help to extend your motorcycle battery life.
Initial charge brings battery to full 14.2 volts then converts to float charger and monitors battery at 13.2 volts.

GG,

Next time it starts acting up at 1/4 tank, try loosening the cap. If you can do that whilst riding.

Otherwise, in a relatively quiet area, loosen the cap and listen. If the tank inhales, your cap vent is not venting.

I used to spray some carb cleaner in the cap (well away from the bike!) and tap it several times with a small piece of wood. Then blow it out with some compressed air.
