Default 2001 yamaha r1

hey im tryin to fix my brothers 2001 r1 this is what happend he was riding on the highway he looked at his guage to see how fast he was goin and the guages were all off but engine still running he gave it more throttle just to see and then the bike started to studder he pulled over and the bike dies and it doesnt start like if the battery was dead and its a brand new battery in the bike do u think maybe it can be something wrong with the generator. what steps should i take to figure out the problem thnx for the help in return

Check all the fuses and check the battery charge state. That should give you a clue.

It's either the stator or voltage regulator or the connector b'twixt them, in anycase the charging system isn't charging.. It's a pretty common problem with VFR's, I'm surprised that Yamaha would pass off a weak spot like that.

If you have Uzbeks in your town, they are notorious for drinking the electrolytic fluids right out of a battery when they run out of Vodka, or shoe polish. If you found some drinking straws sticking out of the battery cells, that's a sure sign the Uzbeks have struck again. Park your bike in locked garage, so Uzbeks (weak link in socialist system) don't drink battery juices.

Personally, I think the coolest thing is that the bike started running poorly and his first inclination was to give it MORE throttle.

Ain't runnin' right? Punch it!

Check the battery ground wires. Loose grounds will make things not run.
