Sounds like your on the way to being a mighty fine motorcycle mechanic. The old two smokes are pretty simple beasts and a great start to wrenching on bikes.

The old "grounded kill switch wire" routine! I had a kickstand kill switch that drove me nuts for the longest time. Good going, let us know how she runs.

Help!
I need somebody!
Help!
Not just anybody!
Help!
You know I need someone!
He-e-elp!

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.

Help me if you can, I'm feelin' down!
And I do appreciate you being round!
Help me get my feet back on the ground!
Won't you please, please help me?

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
My independence seems to vanish in the haze.
But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I've never done before.

Help me if you can, I'm feelin' down!
And I do appreciate you being round!
Help me get my feet back on the ground!
Won't you please, please help me?

Congrats. on getting the bike running, that's a good feeling ain't it?

You are probably well into either riding this bike or have abandoned it by now but I'd be happy to trade wrenching tips with you. My father in law sold me a non-running 1975 DT250 about a month ago. I had similar issues. Turned out I needed to replace the oil seals and get new points. With the bad seals it was spitting oil directly onto the points. Soon as I replaced seals, plug and points and rebuilt the carb, it fired up after two kicks. It had been garaged since 95!

Now I'm just trying to figure out how to make it as reliable as I can. Hope you are enjoying yours.
