Default 1986 XR250R carb issues

Good evening all. My bike had sit over 4 months, I ran it once a month. I went to start it the other day and found that my left float was stuck closed. I freed it up. Got the bike started, but now it will only run decent on full choke. When I take the choke off, it stalls. I can keep it running and ride it off of choke as long as I keep the throttle cracked. It also misses throughout all throttle setting. I have run carb cleaner through it with no luck. Any ideas?. Thanks

What brand of carb cleaner.......and how much ??

Berryman's B12 Chemtool is my favorite, followed closely by Gumout.

In your situation, I would use twice the recommended dose.......and then it needs to be run long enough to warm up a time or two.

Probably should drain the other stuff out first......and drain the float bowls too.

Thanks for the reply!

I used Gumout, the whole bottle about 4 oz i believe, mixed with half a tank of new gas. I did drain the gas and the bowls before I attempted to start it the first time, thats how I discovered the left float was stuck it would not flow fuel out of the bowl drain when the bowl was empty.

If it still will not idle, you will need to remove the carbs and clean the jets manually. Carb spray-cleaner needs to go through each passage, avoid like the plague getting it on soft, rubbery bits (ESPECIALLY the diaphragms). You may need to use a fine COPPER wire to actually get the idle-jet clear (if you cannot see through it holding it up to a light - it's not clear - and the orifice is very tiny).
