I recently came into an older Honda Nighthawk that has scratches on the body from the previous owner. Although having it painted professionally would of course be the best route, the value of the bike just doesn't warrant the expense of a pro. If I sand it down and manage the prework, could someone point me in the right direction for painting it myself. Would like to avoid an expensive spray gun and compressor, so any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Spray-can. I believe there is a company that sells "professional" pre-catalysed paint in spraycans - costs a bit more than the typical spraybomb, and it has about a 2-week "life" in the can, but the paint is OEM-durable when cured - you don't have to worry about scratches from breathing too hard on it, or fuel-solvents. Grundles of colours - enough to suit almost any style.
You prime & smooth-sand, then a few coats of color, then a wetsand with 600, 1000, 1500-grits, then clearcoat, then wetsand-again, and buff it to a show-shine. The bad? I can't recall the name of the company..... All-told, you could probably do a "Pro" job on a bike for $75-100 or less, including sanding-supplies - but it's gonna cost you TIME and detail.
