Cheap @ twice the price....that or Castrol GTX 20-50 which BMW recommends. They also recommend against using syn. oil for the first 10k or so, I guess it takes a while for the rings to seat...

Hmm .. I bought the bike used, and it has a little under 10k miles on it. I'll take my chances with synthetic. Thanks for the input, Ken, Moke!

If I was still in SoCal I'd just run regular oil, but here in the Midwest I prefer the other stuff.

???? Never heard that one. Why would the location matter?

Dunno. That's why I'm asking. Trent's a smart guy so there might be a good reason.

The weather is always perfect in Cali. Just ask them. In the Midwest they have to deal with radical temperature extremes. Thus, synthetic is a better choice.

I guess.

Or maybe there's a $500 per quart excise tax in Cali? You never know.

Gets pretty hot in the mid-west, as I recall from visiting my 2nd ex wives crew. They live in Southern Illinois and it was over 100 every time we were there. Pretty miserable IMO and hard on the oil I imagine.

One of the few benefits of living here is I don't have to pop for synthetic oil, plain old Dino-lube works just fine in this horrible cold and rainy climate. Tires last along time too because the roads are so cold...

But still better than my climate. Utah's climate is the worst in North America and maybe the entire world. Not to mention the gangs of armed Sasquatch.......

I would think Utah would be a paradise on earth, what with all the great scenery, skiing opportunities, low crime rate and high standard of living..... not to mention the spiritual aspects of those Anasazi and Hopi ruins....Kinda' like Taos New Mexico In fact it seems those stargazers, naturalists and other fringe elements should flock there and set up communes.....Maybe they just don't realize how beautiful and spiritual Utah really is!
