My CDI seems to have failed, no spark at front cylinder, everything else seems to check out.

here is the question: are the internal parts of dual ignitors from 83-85 Shadows the same as the 86 combined single unit. I have carefully taken both 86 and 83 CDI apart and they look the same.

I would consider a rewire if they will work....the cheapest 86 CDI I found was $200+ and very scarce.

anyone done this?

Also: a CDI from a VT500 is a single unit and has the same two connectors as the VT700 just from different locations.

Wondering if that would work....I mean they just fire the coils right???

too expensive to buy and try, that is why I am asking.
