Default Bike Losing Compression & overheating

Help, my 2001 Honda 650XL seems to run fine on the road & around town, but I am losing serious compression & I am getting white bursts of smoke whenever I climb a hill. The engine seems to be much hotter after a ride than usual....This sounds like some kind of engine ring/seal problem, but I am no mechanic....I've had 3 of these Honda in the last 20 years and this is the first engine problem I have ever experienced....Does anyone have any ideas?

Get a compression tester and test it to be sure. I am assuming you've checked your oil level right? Is it a noticable loss of power? How many miles does it have? Do you have it maintained regularly? Do you ride it regularly? And is that everyday or every week? Or every month?

Diagnoses on line would seem similar to poking your manhood around in the dark at a strangers house. Please give us some history. Oh and if anyone here asks, just tell'em you have a manual!!!

Check your valve adjustment, too. Tight vaves could cause this, too.

This is a really unique metaphor, Mokely. Please fill us in on it's origin.

Wait, no, don't.

Seriously though, It doesn't bother me they don't have a service manual. It's when they are so vauge, and most times don't give any history, year, model. It's like the thousands of calls I used to mistakenly answer.

Example: Hello thanks for calling Cycle Sports this is Moke can I help you.

-Yeah I got a red Suzuki, it don't run how much to fix it?
