Mufflers

Hi.

I have wondered for a while, but haven't found a real answer, just a lot of retailers. what are the slip-on mufflers for? or even the complete mufflers. all i can think of is to upgrade a lil' bit the performance buth nothing else. whats their real point?

thanks

Reason 1: Slipons can possibly save some weight, improve response and gain a couple of hp if attention is paid to the fuel/air mixture.

Reason 2: So people can pretend to be hotshot rad riders.

It might help you to know that there are two types of replacement exhaust systems:

"Slip-ons" are usually the muffler itself. Sometimes a short connecting pipe is included.

"Full systems" include the muffler, the connecting pipes, and the headers. They replace the entire exhaust from the engine exhaust port to the muffler tip.

Slipons are best, 'cuz they backfire the Loudest.......

Interestingly enough the stock HD Bazooka's are quite a bit lighter than the smaller diameter stainless steel D&D's I misguidedly installed on my Badger though admittedly that's not usually the case.
