Default CalSci Windshield for Triumph Tiger

The Tiger saga continues. My latest acquisition is one of the excellent windshields from California Scientific. Triumph Tiger Windshields

The stock windshield is little more than a bug screen with the wind hitting me squarely several inches below the helmet. I need better protection because I put on a fair amount of miles in all but snowy weather. I checked out several windshields before ordering the CalSci touring shield for the Tiger. The other shields out there do not allow returns or exchanges and most of them have little feedback info that I could find.

I decided to try Calsci because:
1- You can order various heights in increments of 1.5".
2- They offer an exchange policy if you are dissatisfied with the height. I already have extra shields laying around for other bikes that were lousy. Even though the Calsci is a bit more pricey at $185 it's cheaper than spending $150 for a shield that sucks.
3- Several people on Triumph.rat were very pleased with it.

I used Calsci's handy web page for measuring your new shield height and went with the 9" over. It came to about $200 with the UPS ground shipping.

After 12 days the shield hadn't shown up so I emailed Calsci. I got an apology an hour later and the shield was sent UPS 3 Day at no extra charge.

The shield is easy to install with only the removal of 6 screws being necessary. 5 minutes and I was on the road. This is an excellent shield. It comes up about as high as the chin guard of my Arai. I experience minimal buffeting, less than any other shield I've tried on other bikes. Around town it is very quiet. Even at 95 mph the air pocket remains very calm. It's nearly as comfortable as the massive Vetter screen on my GL1100. I would not hesitate to recommend this shield to anyone. I am looking forward to using it on our week long tour of Indian Country in May.

Some pictures. One shows the original shield taped to the new one so you can see the difference.

Next up is the set of Rox risers I just received.

I put the CalSci shield on my BMW. I started with the medium height and then exchanged it for the large.

It is much better than stock. His webpage is an interesting read as well.

Great product and totally worth the money.

Believe it or not - I dislike screens that give me a pocket of "still" air on my neck and chest. I tend to overheat easily, and find it seems like I "can't breathe" if I'm not able to crack-open my visor and let someone-elses fresh exhaust fumes into my lungs.

I can NOT tolerate a screen I have to look-through when riding in the rain.

Just me, that's all.

It's not "still air". It just doesn't give the vacuum bubble or buffeting. In really hot weather though I'm not sure yet how it will do. I'll post that up in another month. LOL!

I know it's not "still" - that's why I put the "" around it!

OK: I dislike screens that give me a pocket of "low-pressure/non-turbulent" air on my neck and chest...........

Better? Great. Now Sod Off!

Looks like you stole my garage door, I even have black marks in the middle too. But the biggest revelation is that I can see the pics at all. Though my lust for the tiger has increased by viewing...

So heading out end of May again? I'm planning my now annual pilgrimage to Miller for WSB. We got Disalvo on the trumpet this year for WSS. The national park tour will have to wait for another time as the wife is in start up mode and wont be able to get the time off. Oh well, I'll have a good time.

Get a test ride on one and your lust will become irresistible.

We always tour the "4 Corners" area in the spring. It isn't usually very hot yet and there is a lifetime worth of Amerind ruins to find and explore. We've dona a lot of So Utah and No Arizona so this year our destination is Valley of the Ancients near Cortez, Co. Maybe Mesa Verde too depending.

Default Thanks for the Update

The screen looks great with the White Tiger. Just hope you won't be branded racist because of your color choice. Ride Safe.

I'm a middle aged white guy with military service who isn't a democRAT. I'm automatically a rascist.

I'd have preferred blue, but the $6K off deal was too good to pass up.

The windshield is about the only thing I don't like about my FLHT, it's just the right height that the airflow misses the vents in my helmet. I usually ride around with the face shield open anyway but if it's cold or wet out I have to crack the shield or it fogs up in no time. Easy enough to change, I just haven't done it yet.

I used to post on TriumphRat.Net all the time when I had my Trophy and Bonneville, it's a pretty cool site. I'm afraid the racist joke went right over my head, since I have a black bike does that make me diverse? It's so hard to keep track of these things....
