It also dulls the paint when it's hot - a WARM engine might be OK.......

I use to manage a low pressure steam system at Park La Brea, the only problems we had were the condensate floats sticking, and causing "water hammer" conditions in "hot" side of the system.

Old tech, the original system was built in 1939.

This plant was built in '61 so it's nice and modern. We think something broke loose in the D.A. tank so we're waiting for a shut down order today to drain it, kick the manhole in and take a look inside. Unfortunatly I'm too big to fit in there so I'll be the outside man. (darn)

Ah a couple of utility workers, I work a combinded cycle power plant 1992 vintage, in Ft. Lauderdale. We have a large "water plant" that makes condensate for steam and also for NOX control. The plant can produce 1200 gallons an hour using reverse osmosis, degasifiers, and anion/cation mixed beds. I run the power side (see control room photo) which is capable of ~ 920 MegaWatts. Sometimes I bring my bike up the elevator and park it inside on the turbine deck see photo.

Hey mjdart! Your plant is near the intersection of I-595 and SR 7, right? The plant I'm thinking of is near a land fill. Does the plant run on methane from the landfill? I'm in Coconut Creek; we pass by the plant all the time when we're out riding.

Cool! that's a nice plant. My office/control room is about as big as the desk without the additional horseshoe part. This is strictly a steam plant here with some closed loop outplant firetube hot water boilers in the newer buildings. The plant at the UW where I worked prior to this is a cogen with a single 5k kilowatt turbine generator and a much more modern control room set up
