Default 2005 Suzuki stops running

Self inflicted problem; I cleaned the front air filter, which involves removing the seat, tank, and moving a few cables around. After getting the bike together, I have the following problem; the bike initially starts and idles fine, after a quarter mile it appears to run out of gas and will not start again. I checked both fuel valves, checked gas lines to be sure they are on the correct side of the valves, I'm at aloss. I've gone all the way down to the filter and back up twice looking for something missed ar kinked. Any suggestiosn welcomed. Bike is a 1400 (S83), 2005 Boulevard.
Thanks in advance.

Possible kinked vent line? Try running it with the gas cap off. That is all I can think of besides having you take it to a dealer to change the air filter next time.

When you open the gas cap, do you hear a big "whoosh" sound?

As LR said, most likely the vent is pinched. To check, ride it with the gas cap loose, see if it runs OK.

You really should have known...

Thanks for the suggestions. Neither hit the mark though. Although I'll take the suggestion to take the bike to the shop for filters changes under consideration. I'll drag the bike down to the shop today and once I find out what happened I'll post it. Then, hopefully, we can all have a good laugh.

Well congratulations you've replaced one of the hardest airfilters that I know of in the biz. Let me ask you did you unhook any of the throttle lines that are connected to the carbs?

No, I only moved the two brackets on top of the air filter holding the cables in place, as the manual directed. I checked for air leaks around the filter case again, swapped gas lines (just in case I managed to mark them incorrectly), the bike always runs the same, rough and then dies like it's starving for gas. Even with the gas cap off.

Another thing I thought of is that you may have loosened or shorted the engine temperature sensor. If that happens, the motor will start and run a short time. If the ECU doesn't get a certain voltage from the sensor, the ECU assumes that the engine is severely overheating and then shuts it down. I have seen this happen with fuel injected Buells. Just a thought.
