I guess the BMW guys had the final drives apart so often they put in the wrong gears inadvertantly and found that it worked.

Does "competent mechanic" mean "SmokeU with a file in his hand"?

If by competent you mean "SmokeU with a Bridgeport(manual or CNC)." I do a bit of programming for the laser where I work and have done some 5 axis waterjet stuff. Also used various mills and lathes.

All that 'lectronickery an' CNC crap is Cheatin'............

There ain't nothin' worth havin' if you can't fix and/or modify it with a 3lb ballpein hammer, a 1/4" flat & #2 Philips, and a pair of water-pump pliers!

Wow! I envy you. You are really set up to do far more damage than I ever could.

Yeah, shyte's gettin' too damn safe in the Shop these days. Used to be, a man'd go see some guy about gettin' a flywheel turned; if he didn't have missing-digits - you'd go down the road to the next Shop, cuz there ain't no WAY this guy'd been around long-enough to know what he was doin'..............
