Default vulcan 1500 classic cutting out

I have a 2000 vulcan 1500 classic reg carb. engine,
I ride 14 mile one way to work and the bike has just started sputtering, at highway speed or dying at idle . I have noticed the temp light comes on then the motor sputters and sometimes backfires or dies at idle. wether or not the engine is cold or running temp it is not overheated. light just comes on for a second.
Any ideas would be nice

The temp light comes on? Have you looked at the water level? Is it dry?

If so, soak the bike in lukewarm salt water for three days................

Well, sounds like an intermittent electric issue (intermittents really suck). Try pulling and re-seating all the connections, look for loose or broken wires, etc. Wriggle the harness while the bike is idling and see if anything happens

tell me about the intermittent isues sucking when I was an auto mech. I hated those problems. kinda wishing it just go on and quit then it'd be easier to find and fix.
