Default jeeze I'm outta' control...

I just bought an HD Premium oil cooler (w/ turbolater fins) for my bike...it even has a chrome cover which to be honest, seems to kinda' defeat the purpose but hey what do I know....

It's a pretty clean unit, the base and inlet/outlet lines goes between the oil filter mount and the oil filter and the heat exchanger attaches below the regulator/rectifier at the front of the engine. The FLHT full front fender should keep it from picking up to much debris.

Realistically it doesn't get that hot here but I figure cooler is better, for the month or two that it (may) get into the 80's and 90's it should help keep things a little cooler. MSRP was $299., Chicago HD internet price is $235. plus $15. shipping so $250. total. If I'd have bought it here w/ sales tax it would have been $330 so not a bad deal.

I have another 1500 miles to go before I hit the 10k oil change so I'll wait till then to install it, waste not want not ya' know...

Breathe, breathe, relax. It's ok. It's not like it was tassles or anything...

I don't get the chrome part either.

You are perfectly safe until you get the overwhelming desire to buy armchaps. Then it is perfectly acceptable to panic.

But if I did that, I wouldn't have "Tubolater Fins" anymore!

Should have spent the dough for the armchaps.

One of those oil coolers may be useful in Phoenix, but not in Seattle. I ride all the time in the desert sans cooler and have no problems.

Make sure it has the thermostat so your oil can heat up to proper temp before the cooler kicks in.

It does, supposed to keep closed until it hits 185*. The main reason I bought it was for slow-n-go traffic while I'm commuting. Things can warm up pretty quick like that so I figure a little extra cooling while I'm moving can help.

This way I can use Rotella for $13.00 a gallon instead of synthetic for $8.00 a quart

Does it have a place to put your coffee?

And - not to smack ol' Secretarriat when he's down, but you can buy a full synth oil (Mobil 1) at WallyWorld for $20 a gallon. Heck, it might even be 5qts, I don't recall. I use the 15W-50. Formerly a Gold-cap, now it ain't.

You could probably use it in all three sumps.
