Default 87 1400 Intruder idles but won't rev

87 1400 Intruder was sitting for 5 years . Cleaned out the gas tank and got it to run. It idles good but as soon as you give it gas it pops and bangs and won't rev at all . Looks like a nightmare to take the carbs out . Does anyone think it could be something else ?

Sounds like you want it to be anything but the carbs huh? Getting them out isnt to bad its getting them synched up thats going to drive you crazy, trust me! Imo, they need to be overhauled and I would replace every rubber peice you can. Good luck.

You might be lucky - typically, they won't idle 'cuz the carb passages are gunked-up. Try a can of "Seafoam" or "Berryman's B-12" in the gas.

If that doesn't work - it's disassembly and cleaning time.

Good Luck.

Seafoam is too expensive. Instead, immerse the motorcycle in warm salt water...you know the rest.

sounds like a clogged main jet, or a few. Gas turns to glue after 5 years

Get a service manual, if your going to try and do this job yourself. It's amazing the thing even runs after five years of sittting with gas.
