You can see customer rider reviews here:
Vehicle Reviews for Ural

Here is a site dedicated to Urals and other Russian bikes:
home

This is their forum:
Iron Forums

I don't think there are any owners on this forum, but I think Cuddy and Sarnali are fans. I like them, but I'm not much of a mechanic.

Check out my Chang Jiang story in the motorcycle reviews section, it gives some background on the Ural & IMZ. The later ones are a lot better than the first copies that made it over here, you don't have to change the pistons and bearings any more. It's basically an R75 copy that the Russians got when they took East Germany (and the BMW factory) after WWII. Some people have reported valve recession problems with the cylinder heads (cheap valve seats) and other top-end issues, but being that it's an early BMW boxer copy makes it a good robust design. The Patrol has the driven sidecar wheel, right?

Yup, the Patrol has a PTO to the sidecar wheel off the rear hub and yes I think they're massively cool. I've never actually ridden (driven?) one but I've crawled all over them from top to bottom. The new ones are supposed to be a big improvement in electrics and materials but they still appear to be a very hands on motorcycle with an industrial look to them. I don't know how labor intensive one would be over the long term but I would plan on getting my hands dirty, the upside is they're built in such a way that you could probably rebuild one in the middle of Siberia with a rock and a screwdriver. I would love to have one.

Make that a "Bronson Rock".

IIRC, the importer is in Seattle.

The ones they had at the last IMS looked WAY cool!

They are not supposed to be lightning fast, however. The Interstate may not be a great idea.

How did this work out for you? Did you find/buy one?

I've had my 2006 Ural Tourist LX since 05/06/07. I've put 32,000 kilometers on mine. Love it.
