Default Myrtle Beach city council puts the clamps on bikers

I just got back from a biz trip to Myrtle Beach and this was the talk of the town. The city council added 15 (that's right 15) new laws governing bike rallies.

It won't be hard to avoid because the city is just a small part of the Grand Strand. I guess the morons didn't really like those sales tax revenues.

I'm going to boycott the place. Since I have never been there, it should'nt take all that much for me to do my part.

The links didn't work for me...this the place where they have Black Bike Week, right? Cycle World's article on the last event said the cops were clearly clamping down on the festivites. No topless or thongs on bikes for the ladies, no drunken drag races on the streets, sheese.

You should write an autobiography about all the stuff you've never done.

I'd vote for you.......

Myrtle has a big H-D rally along with Black Bike Week.

I believe they are both in the same month.

There are two events. The first is the Dealers Association Motorcycle Rally, and it happens the weekend before the Memorial Day weekend.

The second one is referred to as 'Black Bike Week', which is centered North of Myrtle Beach; it happens on the Memorial Day weekend.

Supposedly it is the second event that has the public servants spun up. 'Everyone' is irritated with the first, and they're not happy about the second one, either.

My folks live there, and they say the Rally is a big PITA. But, they are afraid to drive during the Week. There is a metric butt-ton of bikes in town during both events, but the Week seems to bring more behavior problems, on and off the pavement.

And yes, the noise is definitely a factor. Loud pipes are a very easy annoyance to hang a complaint on.

We have a bunch of folks here that complain about the crowds during Thunder Beach, but right now the money the 'bikers' spend has more emphasis. That can change in a heartbeat, though.

One Big Problem (i.e., big fight, big accident, innocent bystander hurt or killed) could result in an outcry that would end the event. And that kind of thing has certainly happened before.

Two books. You also need some terrorist and mafia buddies. Make sure the guy on your VP search committee is the former CEO of FNMA and the current CEO is a big campaign donor.
