Rockin!

Sound-quality through these crappy corporate-issue speakers is dodgy, at best - but the bikes each have their own distinctive sound - and they all sound good.

'Specially that Tornado........

Thank you!

Still sounds like the Preproduction Buell... Bummer, spotty fueling isnt any fun, right Sarnali?

Much prefer the looks of the air cooled buells... The Benelli is gorgeous though......

The Benelli Triples were $36K a few years back. Is that $16K price correct?

newagetwotone 07-16-2008 06:28 PM

Yea, check out their website, most expensive is $18

gbrummett 07-16-2008 09:04 PM

Yeah, and besides looking much better the air cooled Buells get much better mileage (I'm getting 54 mpg on mine) but at least Buell has a bike now that has over 120 rear wheel HP and is water cooled.

Great test.

Excellent write-up Pete. I think you captured all of these bikes well.

Luckily, I was able to ride two of the three. Sadly, damp weather put a damper on my further participation.

The Ducati is just an unbelievable motorcycle. It's a treat for the eyes and a spectacular ride. I realize this was the S model but the standard model is worth every penny of it's selling price. It's so purposeful and so right. I was lane-splitting on the 405 and even that was fun (except for my roasted a$$ due to the underseat exhaust).

I only got to listen to the Benelli. The sound and the flames are incredible. Personally, the Tre' shape has been around a long time and I found it a bit dated. It will attract a lot of attention on the street. The jury is still out on the Chinese ownership.

The Buell seems like the bike designed by all the guys on the message boards. It has a willing, torquey ("proper") motor, great ergos and wind protection, and the unique Buellness that we love. The individual parts are great but as a whole, it's kind of oddball. I really enjoyed riding it but found the appearance all wrong. The air-cooled Buells (particularly the S model) look so right. The 1125 could have been designed by a committee of Boeing engineers.

I suppose any of these could find a home in my garage because I like bikes that take their own path to greatness.

The Ducati is my pick.

PS- This post will require one carne asada burrito. Do I send the receipt to Canada?

Send your receipt anywhere but my house, Buz! Sorry rain spoiled our playtime.
