You know, you could have just stayed home and sat in a sauna.

What do you want to do with the bike? Are you looking to do track days? Take short weekend hops on twisty backroads? Or commute to work, take vacations on your bike, take 300 mile Saturday rides? That should drive your bike choice. My wife loved her Duc 620, but I have a friend who loves her 600cc sportbike. She never rides the sportbike more than 50 miles at a time, but she doesn't really want to. There are those who do IBA events on sportbikes, but they are a small minority.

What is the deal with the weird time signatures on the posts... There are about a dozen good bulletin board applications out there that seem to work beautifully... why is MO using one that, apparently, sucks?

The two have very different missions. The CBR600RR is a race replica bike meant for hustling around a race track as fast as possible. The Monster is a lot more street oriented, meaning less power but more comfort and practicality. I'd say the Monster is probably what you'd want.
